Re-Produced Soundtrack

We adjusted the music from the original using garage band. We still used the initial audio that was created after receiving feedback and making an updated version however this is the main theme song for the film as the lyrics highly relate to the Lonely boy's character

Rough Cut 2 (Improvements Needed)

Things We Need To Improve

- The ending of the opening sequence needs to leave the viewer feeling like they want to watch the rest of the movie which at the moment does not portray in what direction the movie is actually going.
- During the walking scene it didn't distinguish the stereotype we were looking to have using the lonely boy
- Forcing us to add another scene to the end of the movie to help create the stereotype that in the end began to give the viewer an understanding of what direction the movie is going in.

Rough Cut 2 (Positives)

Positives:

- The overall idea that we are trying to portray was generally understood, to make sure that viewer knew that we was creating a sports movie about  a boy with a dream.
- The effects we input and the music, added to the emotion we were trying to create of a boy who is 'Lonely'
- The angles we shoot the walking scene in was well shoot and provided us with and General idea of how to improve it the next time.
- The way in which we shot the football scene and the editing of it provided the viewer with a visual aspect of the boys dream
- Making the 'Lonely boy' wake up from a dream allowed us to link the name of the film with the story we are trying to portray

Response to Feedback Rough cut feedback 1

Response To Feedback
We listened to the feedback and proceeded to schedule another shoot in an attempt to bring the contents of the production to life and effectively fit the filming and the our lighthearted theme together. Our aim now is to give the viewer a sense of direction when watching the opneing scene so they have a clear idea on what is happening and what will or could happen/involve.

Secondly, we have plans to change the music in a more experimenting and interactive way. We will adjust the music and show it to different people so we receive isntant feedback on what the selected music makes the listener think and feel. If we can identify these feelings with our theme, then we can assure that we've succeeded in this aspect of the film.

We carefully considered different titles but the main concept of the film and this idea is one of this young man that dreams of being a successful footballer. It's someone that even if things don't click in for him, there's this drive and determination that will make this distant dream a reality for him. and sticking with this idea we decided to alter the title instead of changing it into 'The Dream' OR 'Dream'. 'The' determines that the dream is specific, so we left it open to just 'Dream', as if encouraging the viewer to maintain their aspirations. A positive title to in contrast to our first, more negative title.

Feedback from Rough Cut 1

Feedback

After revealing the first Rough Cut to the teacher and received feedback for it there were a few major problems with the actual cut. The first problem encountered was not the quality of the footage we'd produced but the actual contents of the footage which aren't relevant to what our presentation on our production proposed had to be changed. It was too simple and stale. The exact opposite of what we were aiming to produce. 'It's just him walking to College.'

Mary also commented on the music and how she felt like the music didn't really fit the theme we were trying to bring across. The theme we were trying to portray was a lighthearted success story. However, it come more across as a dark and heavy theme because of the selected music.

Our original title of the film was 'A Lonely Dream'. The word 'lonely' has rather negative connotations; depression, sad, isolation, black et cetera. This also put emphasis on the 'dark' music we had wrongfully chosen.

Title Name Update

Mise En Scene

Weather Checks

For the days we filmed we had to ensure that we had the right weather conditions to film with as we didn't want the equipment to get wet. Also we needed to make sure the scenes filmed would be seen clearly without the problem of it raining.

Location of Walking Scene

Locations Update

These are both Locations which will be seen in the film when the lonely boy arrives to college and the film starts to set as to what kind of character he is portrayed as. As it was a public location we had to film when it was less occupied so we could get the correct shots we needed without having anyone interfere with the scenes.

Costumes

FeedBack Update

After Receiving feedback as to what we needed to improve, we added an extra scene to the end of the film to set the initial idea of the film as to what his dream is and what starts to motivate him to pursue it. This needed to be added as it is what would make the audience want to carry on watching it as it showed that the film had actual purpose, which now is clearly seen.

Locations

This was also a location that was used. The scene that was filmed here was when we have the dream sequence at the start of the film when he is training and playing football. We had to ensure that we find a location that was mutual for everyone whilst it being accessible for public use. As the scene didn't consist of any extra's we didn't require any permission when it came to filming as it was only the actor in our film on the pitch training.

Creation of the Title Sequence

Making of Production Ident

The production Ident was created using Motion, this is the visuals that will be shown at the start of the film before it is started.

18 Titles in Motion

It's fairly simple to create your own title using the program Motion. When you load up the program you have 4options to choose from; view the quick tours, begin with an online tutorial, start with a template and start a new project. The first two options are learning tools for the last 2. If you're a novice at using Motion like I am then that's okay too, you can use the third option which enables you to choose from a multitude of templates on a basic but effective title sequence. As a group we also considered this but we agreed that an integrated title sequence into the film would be more 'proffesional'.
If you take your time to learn the tips and tricks of Motion then you can start a new project and create everything from scratch, the problem here is it will take up a lot of time to get something you yourself will like. I created the title sequence below with the help of templates.
Even if you do use a template you can edit the layers of that template according to how you see it fit. For my own I actually liked the contrast and colour of the template so I kept it the same and simply changed the text to what I wanted it to be. Lastly, I also changed the title's animation into a flip from a fade. Once you get the hang of it, your time on Motions will be effective and with ease.

Blogging Health Check 2

Using Handbrake

Due to a limited amount of size that a file could be uploaded on the the blog, HandBrake is a converter that makes it a able to be viewed on the blog in the correct format.

Evaluation of Using GoPro

The GoPro filming was a good experience as it was a new technology that had been recently released, it was a camera that allowed the user to record everything they do from a first person perspective however the problems that occurred when we first used it was that we had been in the shots therefore it meant all the footage was unusable.

Overall we had many difficulties while recording with the GoPro camera as we weren't able to directly able to review the footage once it had been filmed as it needed to be reviewed on a computer so by the time we noticed any problems we had with the footage it was too late to record as it would have been too dark to film the footage as to film with the GoPro camera required natural daylight.

Problems With Filming

When we first started filming we had filmed the first scene and then when we went to edit the footage then realised that in the reflection of the clock a member of the production and due to being in every shot so it had to be refilmed.

When preparing to re-film the scene we had the a problem with our chosen actor cutting his hair, this then unfortunately pushed us back with time as we had to find a new actor and re-film the scene whilst losing crucial time. It meant that we had less time to edit, therefore we had to ensure that we perfected every shot taken after that.

Change of music

The original soundtrack for the opening scene had to be changed as it was not setting the mood that we wanted it to as it was creating a mood that would be in a horror film. We wanted it to create a sense of loneliness whilst being a mood of aspiration. This is the new soundtrack that is used in the opening scene. We decided that there should be a variance in the music that should be played, this soundtrack supports the idea of a football scene due to the high tempo and the sporty atmosphere that it builds.

This soundtrack allows the viewer to begin to incorporate themselves into the sporty yet serious environment we are trying to create in the opening two mins.

Rough Cut 2 Feedback

Heres some feedback towards the Rough Cut of our opening scene:

Kass Media Productions

Future Films

Future Films is a specialist, integrated motion picture organisation that takes productions from pre-financing to distribution and sales. This production company would be ideal to support the idea of  sporty teen drama as is took part in the production of Bend It Like Beckham, one of the films that inspired our initial ideas of the movie.

Scottish Television

Scottish Television Production is another company which supports the film we are trying to produce as it has history of creating sports movies with its role in the 1981 production of Gregory's Girls.

Above is the chosen design for our production company known as 'KASS MEDIA PRODUCTION'. The Sequence was created using motion, the program was harder to use than anticipated but in the end chose to keep it simplistic.

Pitch Feedback

After reviewing the feedback we have decided that in the opening scene we will not be showing any bullying directly so not much of the film is given away However we will be showing the representation that the main character is lonely.

As these are mainstream movies with the available funding the credits and opening title sequence is a lot longer and also more colorful as it's more 'Light Hearted'' and less serious. The expectation from these movies are a lot more due to not only this funding but the expectations of higher quality, this is created when you see the big picture productions. Unlike the lower budget independent teen films where credits and budgets are a lot shorter.

Font Style & Type Updated

At first we had set fonts for all the text we decided we're going to put into the introduction and film. We felt these font choices were more appropriate for the theme, 'Bend it like Beckham' was the main influence for the font choices. A bulky text for the main text for titles.

Bend it Like Beckham- Inspiration

Our film is based around football which not many production companies will produce a film based on this. So it seemed harder to find films that could be used to influence our film. We focused on the types of shots that were used in the football scenes as it also related highly to the football scenes in our production.

The video above demonstrates the shots that are planned to be used within the scenes for when the lonely boy when he is playing football. These scenes were recorded with the GoPro Camera which shows everything from his point of view, it was used to increase the suspense and almost give the audience a feel of how it is for the main character practising.

11-sub-genres of Teen Dramas

We categorised  teen dramas into separate sub-genres:
-Comedy
This is one of the most popular type of sub-genres in teen-dramas. The sole purpose of films is primarily to entertain and this is used either as a primary focus in films or it's used as a secondary role to enhance the primary sub-genre.
An example of a teen-drama that's focused primarily on comedy are ones like 'The Inbetweeners' , it focuses on the social awkwardness in british teenage culture groups, provoking stereotypes and common misconceptions.

However, there are few british teen dramas compared to america, a more popular or relatable comedy that focuses on specific american culture which consists of comedy and guy films sub-genres is american pie. It's a film that's popular in western society and probably world-wide as well.
Another very popular sub-genre in teen drama is, drama.
This drama other wise known as a chick flick is a movie that appeals to younger women specifically, focussing on the social aspects that young women experience in high school as well as the climb to first place of the popularity contest. This teen drama also has focus on comedic aspects which is very popular with the overall 'Teen Drama' genre. There is a strong focus on drama which is mostly perceived through conflict in relationships and social outbursts from characters. This is what drama is usually revolved around since this is what people can mostly relate to; the bully, the mother, the father, the teacher, best friends, nemesis and all of those stereotypical people one has in their high school experience.

First day of Shooting

Our whole idea of the beginning sequence of our movie is for the main character of our teen drama to wake up from a dream of him doing what he loves. And that is playing football. We wanted to use a GoPro as we wanted a Point of view shot for the viewer to experience the sport he loves playing first hand. We took some still pictures of our main actor playing in the football court so we got some idea of how it was going to look like, which turned out quite well. These are some of the stills we took.

One of the major concerns of filming in the football pitch is if some of the players didn't want to be filmed we couldn't have them in our film, luckily, everyone was nice enough to give us ten minutes of their time and also give us permission to let us use them on our film. We also recorded some footage on the camera incase the GoPro footage didn't work out, since this was our first time using it and weren't aware of how the footage would come out. The footage from the camera really gave us an idea of how the football pitch scene was going to be, which to our surprise, was an authentic and genuine experience. This was what we were trying to achieve with the GoPro so whether the footage from the GoPro works out or not we have backup footage we'll be able to incorporate into the final edit.
The footage uses a wide shot, which is very suitable to capture the whole area however it's very shaky as it's strapped on to his forehead. We want the focus to be on the players he is facing and the ball but it flickers out of focus a lot so we might need to figure out another way to attach the GoPro, maybe even use a skateboard with the GoPro on top in a tracking shot.

A Lonely Dream Pitch

4-Analyse 2 title Sequences

 Mad Men

The credits are ordered from the actors (specifically with the main actor) of the series to the producers of the series and the sequence of credits finally finishes with the series’ title ‘Mad Men’. This adds a particular effect, it’s either hinting to the ones watching these names will be the representation of ‘Mad Men’ or that the madness these people will have involvement with is simply about to begin. The contrasting colours of red and black are conflicting as the tone of the red is one close to blood and black is a powerful and defining colour that’s made out of a different composition so it the text stand out which is the overall goal.

The font type of mad men is Trade Gothic Condensed.

Behind the font we’re shown multiple pictures of some of the characters within the story with a little sneak peak of whom or what their story will entail. The rest of the pictures are of old advertisements of the 90s. The rest of the pictures is of skyscrapers as is it is set in New York.

The background music for this title sequence is from an unknown rap song by DJ RJD2 and rapper Aceyalone.

The whole design and concept was decided and chosen by Mathew Weiner, a producer on the show.

I particularly like this title sequence

because it reminded me of James Bond, one of my favourite series of all time and it just happened to be inspired by it too. It also stands out and is a pretty remarkable show overall which is why I chose it.

Game Of Thrones

The exact meaning of game of thrones specified by the title sequence wiki is as follows; ‘The sequence opens with a close-up of the sun and the astrolabe surrounding it. Relief details are visible on the astrolabe, showing a volcano destroying a city while a dragon watches on and several people escaping in a boat, a reference to the Doom of Valyria. The camera then pans to a wide-shot of Westeros and Essos before zooming in on the city of King's Landing, in particular the sigil of House Baratheon on what appears to be a large gear in the middle of the city. The gear begins turning, moving other cogs, and then three-dimensional buildings start rising out of the ground, such as the Red Keep and the Great Sept of Baelor.’ This is all very specific and only someone who has either read the book or is a complete game of thrones fnatic could understand what this actually entails. However, as an average viewer of game of thrones what particularly stands out in this title sequence is the funky art, the wavey transitions of different settings on the map and the great music everyone can identify with the show.

The music used for this specific title sequence is specifically made for game of thrones opening title sequence hence the name ‘Game of Thrones’ for the music. It was composed by Ramin Djawadi and published by Varese Sarabande.

The particular font used in this title sequence is Yataghan. It stands out in the ring that is the around the sun.
