3-What is a Title Sequence
Defining A Title Sequence
The definition of a title
sequence is as follows: ‘The method by which films or television programs
present their title, key production and cast members, or both, utilizing
conceptual visuals and sound. It usually follows but should not be confused
with the opening credits, which are generally nothing more than a series of
superimposed text.’ In other words it’s the opening of a movie or series with
which you can instantly recognise the creator and show/film whether it’s by the
graphic or most importantly the sound. It’s just one specific thing but a
combination of a bunch of different things that make it unique and easily recognisable. In the Television series ‘Dexter’, the title sequence is recognised by the theme song ‘Blood theme’, the red typography (a link to the colour of blood), the various amount of sharp and harmful objects linking to the act of murder and the following sequence of graphics/video. All of this is a representation of what the serious is about and once people see the first few seconds of an episode of ‘Dexter’, they’ll know exactly what they’re watching without hitting the information button on their television remote.
I picked this specific title sequence since it was the first
one I thought of out of all the series I watched. Every time I watch him use
the razor across his neck, it gives me a mixed feeling of my skin crawling and
chills at the same time. The other sounds such as the cutting of the orange or
the boiling of the egg make you more cautious when you hear it which is why
this title sequence was so memorable. You could say it appealed to more to my
senses unlike the others.

Reasearch : Titles In Motion
In Motion it allows us to create our own titles and indents at the start of our movie
I also found my own font to put within the clip to help customise and individualise my title sequence and give it a new feel to the sequence, I researched various fonts until I found one that would create an instant representation for the theme.
Health Check
I feel that my blog is now a B grade minimum.

Making of a Production Company Ident
This task involved the creation of a production company ident. This program that was used was motion, the creation was fairly easy as to start I had available templates that could have been used to help with the production.
After choosing a template it came to choosing a name for the production company, coming to the final decision of "Finesse Productions"
Then it came to the editing of the colour scheme and the transitions used to present it, below are screenshots showing this.
I chose to add a glow to the edit to make it stand out more to the audience, merging bright colours with the dark theme.
GarageBand Remake
GarageBand allowed me to remove sound off the original movie and then edit i tot create my own assisting sound track. This was moderately harder as to match the sound with what was happening within the movie itself made it hard.
By dragging a dropping the Loops and Foley Sounds this gives us the opportunity to create and be inventive with our own music.
Evaluation of remake Activity
Breakfast Club Remake - Evaluation
The audio which was used throughout the song, was very well placed by getting rid of any necessary sounds which may have been recorded. By getting the song that was used in the film and using it, makes it seem like it really is the Breakfast Club remake video.
By using titles instead of using a still image of a clock, a digital clock was created through the use of titles which makes the film seem like a modern adaptation.
The audio was manipulated by making the sound fade out at certain bits so some dialogue could be heard or certain sounds could be heard which is shown in the bottom right of the picture in the green audio.
It was fairly difficult to create the title sequence as there were two different titles which was used one of which was yellow typeface on black screen, yellow typeface on still images and yellow typeface on a moving image.
The decisions that were made on deciding what font to use was to give it that Breakfast Club feel, and the typeface that was and size of the titles were decided based on which size and typeface would standout.
The font that was chosen gave the audience a feel that it was a teen movie.
The titles are very well integrated as they appear at the bottom of the screen instead of the middle which was the case in the original film.
There are many things that I would do differently if I were to do this practical again one which would include that all the planning is completed before filming and any changes that need to be made happen quickly. The good things which happened very well is the fact that there was really high quality audio capture. There were many good shots that were taken.
However, the problems that was encountered was that the ND filter was turned on therefore most footage that was taken became very dark. There was another problem with timing as some shots took longer than they should have which may have been a result of some debating and arguing in terms of how the shot should be done, from what angle and in what way. This may be result of not being well organised so next time all planning must be completed.
When this moving image was recorded, the way the camera moved around was quite erratic as the recording was not a smooth glide but rather the camera not being handled properly making the shot look as if it's going up and down.
Most of the shots was that of the entrance of the characters which may slightly differ however, so next time more variety would be good.
Though it was a good idea to use a digital time to give it that modern adaptation but it may have caused it differ too much from the original.
To improve the shot, it would have to be recorded again BUT without the ND filter on as the footage is far too dark.
I learned from this experience is before shooting is done, the camera must be checked and make sure that the ND filter is off. I also have learned that before filming is done, I must know what do and when in which shots to avoid wasting time.

Garageband Tutorial
The task was to watch the clip of 10 Things I hate About you and then create a remake of the soundtrack using Garageband. The main task was to gain skills on how to edit sound. Below is screenshots of the work:
In the picture below you can see the video at the top of the screen whereby the soundtrack made is used to create a certain types of moods using sound by viewing parts of the video.
Overall the making of the soundtrack was fairly easy as there were pre-created loops however the main difficulty was finding the correct sounds to match the moods and represent the characters.

Research- Favorite Film Title Sequence Analysis
My favourite film is Zombieland starring Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg. The type of title sequence we see is very slow moving images eventually smashing all things in sight. The order of titles we see are:
- Production Companies
- Actors
- Film name
- Casting by
- Costume designer
- Music by
- Editing by
- Production designer
- Director of photography
- Executive Producers
- Produced by
- Written by
- Director
This is relatively the order we see during the opening sequence of the movie, starting with most important Production company ending with the director being seen last.
Take a look. Enjoy!

Individual Post-Task 15
Attack the Block
Camera
In the opening scene we see the woman as she is crossing the road the camera is positioned at a low angle looking up at her showing her significance and as she approaches the other side of the road the camera angle changes and is then at a high angle and there is a craning shot which is possibly showing that she is in danger.
Also there is a use of wide shot as she is walking down the side road letting the audience gain an understanding of the woman's surroundings. There is also a Long shot of the group of boys as she approaches them showing that she is going to have some sort of interaction with them.
In this title sequence we see an Over the Shoulder shot when one of the youths try to rob her showing that there is a conversation between the woman and the thief. This is a point in the scene that allows the audience to gain an understanding of what is happening.
Editing
The editing used in this scene is Jump cut when the woman is in the Alley and as the firework goes off it cuts to a scene of her being startled by the sound as she turns around to check her surroundings

There is also a use of shot reverse shot to show that there was a conversation taking place which with this editing technique lead to employ a Over the Shoulder Shot.
Sound
In the title sequence there are many types of sounds used. Firstly, there is a use of synchronous sound when the film starts with the camera looking into the sky on a dark night supported by sci-fi music. Thus created a gloomy and mysterious mood for the audience.
Also there is Foley sound used as she is walking down the Alley we hear her footsteps and it gets louder as she moves, it is used to create the suspense that something tragic may happen to her and ask there is a use of diagetic sound as we hear fireworks and people in the background speaking as the woman walks through the market.
Mise En Scene
The setting of the film is in London as it shows an underground station as it starts to let the audience know where it is set.
The props that are used are a Mobile phone which the woman is using to speak on, A bicycle and a knife which the thief threatens the woman with.
The woman in this scene is dressed casually whilst the group of boys are dressed in hooded tracksuits.

In the background we see flashbacks showing scenes from the previous movies in the sequel building up to the current one that is going to be played. Also the Background Music is the official soundtrack for the film.
